What, exactly, do you do?

I am a saltwater guide specializing in fly fishing.  I set up customized trips and join individuals or groups in exotic saltwater destinations.

Why should I be interested?

Because I guarantee that you have never been on a trip like one of mine. You’ll see water other anglers rarely fish. It can involve sleeping on a beach or staying in a five-star hotel or somewhere in between. Either way, it will be unique and specially tailored toward what you want to do.

Who are you?

Here’s the BIO, but the short story is that I have lived in Key West for nearly 30 years. I am a USCG-licensed captain and an FAA-licensed pilot (Flying Fish, get it?). I  live and breathe saltwater fly fishing and love to fish remote places.

Where do you go?

I prefer to look for bonefish in the Out Islands of the Bahamas but I’ll go anywhere I can cast a fly to a fish, and if you want to go too, you can join me.

Do I have to travel with a group?

No. If you want a one-on-one experience, we can do that. If you want to travel with your spouse but fish on your own--no problem. I’ll make sure your spouse gets as little or as much fishing as they want. If you have a corporate group that you’d like to take fishing I can set that up, too.

Do I have to stay in a fishing lodge?

No. Some of my best trips have been completely without an agenda. We often go places where there are fish and figure out the details as we go along. But, if you want to stay in a lodge, I can make that happen and I’ll make sure that it is the best possible experience for you.

Why use local guides?

Because they know the water. They may not, however, know what you want. They may not have expertise in fly fishing. They may not be patient. And they may not return your phone calls. I do all of the above. I am an expediter, an enabler, a troubleshooter, and a good traveling companion.

Tell me more about the exploration trips.

These are very cool trips, but not necessarily a trip for control freaks who have no flexibility in their schedules or agenda. You and I will decide on a general location--the Yucatan, the Mosquito Coast, the Southern Bahamas. I’ll research the opportunities, propose them to you and then, if it is agreeable, we go for it and just see what happens. The angling rewards on these trips can be incredible. Or they can just turn out to be memorable Third World adventures. Regardless, your trip will be one you’ll never forget.

What happens with bad weather?

If we are in, say, Zacatal Mexico looking for the newest baby tarpon hotspot and it rains, there’ll be no refunds and we’re gonna get wet.

When do we use your airplane?

I love to fly and I am an excellent, licensed, insured, and proficient pilot. That said, there are a couple of important things to understand before we fly together. You’ll have to sign a waiver of release. I alone will make all weather and safety go / no-go flight decisions. The plane is a single engine Cirrus SR22 with minimal cargo capacity. That means I can take one or two passengers max with light luggage. And finally, I am a current, instrument-rated pilot with many hours logged over water but I am not a commercial charter pilot. FAA regulations stress that I cannot accept money for the flight except to split standard fuel expenses.

Where have you traveled with clients?

I have taken the plane to remote Bahamian island such as Inagua, Mayaguana, and Ragged Island. I have flown through Belize to the Guatemala border, to the Turks and Caicos, through Mexico and to the Virgin Islands. I also fly to Montauk and Cape Cod for the summer and fall blitzes of tuna and stripers.

What do I need to bring?

This is an all-inclusive service so you can bring as little as your toothbrush, or you can pack the all fishing gear you are most comfortable using. We’ll talk about what is needed in advance and if there is anything you don’t have, I’ll make sure that I bring it along.

How much is this going to cost?

The custom travel pricing is completely dependent upon what we choose to do together. It will include local guide fees, travel expenses, and a fee for my services. I will discuss your itinerary and give you a complete written proposal before we set the dates.

Your time on the water is rare. Do something extraordinary.
